FLOOK

Who are these guys?

‘Iconic’ is a word that is perhaps overused these days, but there can be no doubting the validity of it’s use when describing Flook. The influence this Anglo-Irish band has had is so huge that it’s nigh impossible to measure. Suffice to say there will have hardly been an act at Ceòl Cholasa who does not owe something to this venerable foursome.

Formed over 20 years ago, Flook burst onto the international music scene with their debut studio album, Flatfish.  The band had a remarkably successful performing and recording career – the sheer enjoyment of playing together shined through their albums. But it was their live performances that really captured the hearts of those who watched and listened. The rapport between these four musicians and the sheer enjoyment they developed in playing together, was commented on by audiences and critics alike.

With the flutes and whistles of Brian Finnegan and Sarah Allen, the guitar of Ed Boyd and the bodhran of John Joe Kelly, they weave and spin traditionally rooted tunes into an enthralling sound – with agile but tight rhythms and virtuoso improvisation. Flook possesses a rare blend of fiery technical brilliance, delicate ensemble interaction and a bold, adventurous musical imagination. So much so that they won Best Band at BBC Folk Awards 2006. They decided to take a break in 2008 and since then have only come together for a series of one-off shows and festival appearances.

But now, due to overwhelming popular demand, Flook are back! Launching their long-awaited new album, Ancora, in early 2019. A short tour will support the album in Spring, but the band are still incredibly selective when it comes to playing shows. So we’re are absolutely delighted (and somewhat humbled) that they have chosen to play Ceòl Cholasa 2019.

It has not been easy – coming to Colonsay will involve a number of flights, hotels, rental cars and ferry journeys. But the band are super keen to come and we’re super keen to have them.

Why bring them to Colonsay?

Because there can no possible better start to the 2019 festival than having these icons open the show. Their live performances are the stuff of legend. And now you have the opportunity to see up close why that is. We are seriously excited about this gig.

When can I see them?

TAKE NOTE: FLOOK WILL BE PLAYING ON THURSDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER! So make sure to book that time off, sort out that accommodation and get yourself here for the full weekend. It will most certainly be worth it!!

How do I get to see them?
