Who is Paul McKenna?

Paul McKenna is is a British hypnotist, behavioral scientist, television and radio broadcaster and author of self help….. hold on a minute, think we’re on the wrong wikipedia page here….

Ah yes, this is the one…

Paul McKenna is one of Scotland’s finest young singers and songwriters. He possesses an incredibly powerful voice, which somehow manages to also be intensely emotive. He has invited frequent comparisons to the great Dick Gaughan through his passionate social conscience and political songwriting.

Paul was a featured artist at the world renowned Transatlantic Sessions in 2019. Alongside Cara Dillon, Tim O’Brien, Molly Tuttle and the multi talented house band he performed a string of shows across the UK.

And who is his band?

His band will be familiar to regular Ceòl Cholasa attendees, as it features two members of INYAL: Robbie Greig (fiddle) and Conal McDonagh (pipes/whistles) are joined by Conor Markey (banjo/bouzouki/guitars) and Ewan Baird (percussion). Together they draw on both Scottish and Irish roots, in a dynamic, full-bodied array of original and traditional material, along with songs by like-minded authors.

Why bring them to Colonsay?

Paul really is one of his generation’s very best singers and songwriters. To have staged this many festivals without him is an oversight we are very happy to address this year.

When can I see them?

The Paul McKenna Band will be our Thursday night headliner, kicking off at 9.30pm. This will be your only chance to catch Paul as they will be away on Friday night’s ferry. Sad times. However, there will be a chance to catch a couple of the band as they put on a special gig for us on Friday afternoon….
