Who are these guys?

It’s Lau! You know, 4 time BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winners Lau. Jaw dropping, free thinking, genre bending Lau. Multiple ‘album of the year’ recipients Lau. One of the best acts Ceòl Cholasa has ever seen Lau!

Lau are all these things and also, on a more base level, they are Kris Drever (guitar and vocals), Aidan O’Rourke (fiddle) and Martin Green (accordion, electronics). 3 of the greatest musicians of their generation, together, in 1 stunningly creative band.

Lau’s use of electronics have seen them described as ‘post-folk’, but you simply can’t pigeon-hole these guys. They create the widest sonic landscapes you’ve ever heard. Their tunes leap and dip in unexpected directions. There’s a hint of rock. A hint of jazz. And more than a hint of something truly special.

They are true innovators, never standing still and never resting on their laurels.

Why bring them to Colonsay?

Every year we look to bring you something a little left-field. A little experimental. A little bit of magic. No band in the land fulfils this brief better than Lau. They are guaranteed to dazzle and amaze. Transcendental some might even say….

And how can we testify to this? Well, they’ve been before of course. Way back in 2010, before the buffoons took over (we’re taking world leaders here, not festival organisers…..) Lau came, they saw and they conquered. Their gig that year is still talked about as the perhaps the best ever to grace the festival. No one would argue against their inclusion in a Ceòl Cholasa Hall of Fame.

So, no pressure lads…..

One more and not insignificant reason would be that Martin, Aidan and Kris are 3 of the most down to earth blokes you could hope to meet. There’s no pretence with these guys. They are exactly what Ceòl Cholasa is all about and we can’t wait to welcome them back.

When can I see them?

Lau will be playing 2 sets over the weekend. Most likely they will round out Friday night and return to the stage on Sunday afternoon. This is of course subject to change, but we’ll let you know if it does.

How do I get to see them?

By purchasing a ticket of course!  Festival passes for Ceòl Cholasa 2020 are £100, but an early bird discount of £20 is applied to all tickets purchased before the 29th February. Click on the tickets page to see all the options. The full weekend pass gains you entry to all the concerts in the hall, the stomping late night Ceòl Ceilidh and the workshops. It also entitles you to a seat at hotel gigs (though this is strictly first come, first served).

Remember, Ceòl Cholasa is a limited, bijou event. It’s best to purchase your ticket as soon as possible as then you can rest assured that you will be one of a maximum of only 250 people attending the best wee music festival in the west!
