Who are The Friel Sisters?

Well, they are 3 sisters of the Friel family.

That it?

Of course not. This exceptionally talented trio have taken their pipes, flute and fiddle across the world supporting such luminaries as Altan, The Chieftains, Lúnasa, Sharon Shannon, The Máirtín O’Connor Trio, Cherish the Ladies, Solas and Fidil. Quite the roll call we are sure you’ll agree. Along the way they have picked up the prestigious Trophée Loïc Raisongirls at Festival Interceltique de Lorient.

The girls are from Glasgow but their family roots are in sunny Donegal. So as you may expect, their albums reflect the deep wealth of the Donegal Gaeltacht. And reflect it with an incredibly unified and close blend that only siblings can achieve. Well worth seeking out.

Why bring them to Colonsay?

Ceòl Cholasa proudly boasts of showcasing the very best in Scottish folk and from further afield. And of course that can mean spanning the glimmering Irish Sea and reaching over to the green fields of Ireland. The Friel Sisters will bring a bit of Donegal magic to proceedings and we welcome that with open arms. Expect to be invigorated. Expect to be energised. Expect to be enchanted….

When can I see them?

You’ll have not one, but two, opportunities to catch The Friel Sisters. The first gig is scheduled for 9pm on Friday night, with an afternoon reprise the following day at 3.30pm. You lucky people!
