Who is Tim Edey?

Tim Edey is without doubt one of the finest guitar and melodeon players in the world. A true master of his craft, he also excels on a whole bunch of other instruments, including piano, banjo and whistles. He’s got a pretty great singing voice too. As proof of his all round accomplishment he won the ‘BBC Radio 2 Musician of the Year’ in 2012. Not too shabby!

The roll call of top talent with whom Tim has worked is as impressive as it is extensive, so here’s some highlights: The Chieftains, Dougie Maclean, Christy Moore, Eddi Reader, Shane McGowan, Ry Cooder, Paul Brady, Sharon Shannon, Julie Fowlis, Capercaillie, Michael McGoldrick, Mary Black, Natalie MacMaster, Altan, Brendan Power, Mike Harding and so many more…..

Tim has appeared on Later with… Jools Holland many times plus many other international TV and radio shows.

Quite a big deal then.

Why bring him to Colonsay?

A wee quote from Colin Irwin of fRoots should tell you exactly why we’re bringing Tim to Colonsay this year: “Tim Edey is brilliant – in every which way. As a guitarist, he has few peers. As a box player, he’s a magician. As a character he’s off the scale.”

Expect Tim’s concert to be a magical hour of contrasting genres of music, including folk, jazz, blues, celtic and world music. The combination of beautiful chorus songs and Tim’s unique warm charisma almost guarantees audience participation. A spellbinding mix of musical virtuosity coupled with bucket loads of fun will make for a fine Ceòl Cholasa concert. We can’t wait!
